Stephen Dale interview (Blogpost Cover) 2

Digimind, a global leader in social listening and competitive intelligence, offers different programs and opportunities to Digiminders to follow their interest through their Digimind career path and continuous improvement of their skill set.

A career path based on one’s interest inherently allows the employee to grow, expand, and pursue changing interests in a supportive and encouraging environment. Celebrating individual interests and backgrounds to improve teamwork, creating a more inclusive and cohesive team.

This interview with Stephen Dale shows his career path within Digimind and his different interests throughout his roles.

What is your current position and what are your responsibilities?

My current position is Vice President of Sales where I lead our new business activities and customer acquisition strategies on a global scale. I see my role across three axis: revenue generation, managerial support and enhancing solutions for clients.

I work with and support our regional sales directors across LATAM, US, EMEA and APAC to achieve their new business goals and I have a hands-on approach, sharing my advice and experience.

I also head up our Northern European office in Amsterdam, where I’m currently based. Here I support our sales team and our global pre-sales activities, where we constantly enhance the solutions we present to clients and prospects to deliver best-in-class solutions.

Can you tell us about your background at Digimind?

My journey started as a business development representative in Paris back in 2010. I had various sales and marketing roles in the UK and understood very well the pain points of our clients. I was quickly promoted to an account executive role eventually becoming one of the top performers in the EMEA team and this put me in the shop window to move to Singapore in 2013 and co-open our APAC operation.

In Singapore things really took off, leading a team of 25+ employees, doubling turnover year on year and driving high-profit margins to build one of Digiminds most successful entities. Aside from the success of the business in Singapore, what I took the most pleasure in was building a culture. A place where people could learn, share ideas and contribute, have a good work-life balance and be successful at the same time.

In the middle of 2020, just at the start of the pandemic, it was time to return to Europe, this time to Amsterdam to build a new entity covering Northern Europe and develop a team to drive this. That leads me to my current role where I manage our global new business operations.

What was your first impression of Digimind? What about Digiminders?

I had never worked in the tech/software industry before so I didn’t know what to expect but what I found was a very friendly and Google-like company. A down-to-earth environment, not too corporate or stuffy and everyone is willing to help you achieve. It was a fun environment and I looked forward to going to the office every day to learn new things. I like how open the culture was, you could speak to anyone, including the CEO and this is something I’ve always very much appreciated.

How are Digimind's values (go-getter, benevolent, and entrepreneur) important to you?

Those three values represent everything that I’m about and what I’ve achieved, so you can say that I fully embraced the culture and mindset that was already here.

You need to work hard at Digimind and whilst there’s plenty of support, things are not given to you on a plate and if you want to be successful you have to want it. You also need to have that entrepreneurial spirit and guile and be a bit of a self-starter in order to progress quickly. Being benevolent is second nature at Digimind and in turn, I care about the people I manage, I want them to be successful and I want them to be happy in their roles and personal lives. This is the case of Digimind as a whole and I genuinely believe that we care for our people and want the best for them.

Why do you recommend working at Digimind?

You have everything at your disposal to achieve anything you want to. We have an industry-leading solution, you have access to all levels of seniority, we’re in a fast-paced industry working on the most current-real time subjects possible, and we’re in a rapidly growing industry where every brand is trying to better understand the voice of their customer, we’re a fully global organisation which means there is geographical opportunities, as well as the breadth and depth of roles we have for career progression. And then you have the unique Digimind culture.

With our recent acquisition by Onclusive, we’re now part of a bigger entity giving us the opportunity to grow faster than ever. Finally, I’m proof that you can achieve many things within this great company and I’m lucky and grateful to have been given the opportunity to shine.
