Digimind Career Path Interview: Faiçal Baki
Digimind, a global leader in social listening and competitive intelligence, offers different programs and opportunities to Digiminders to follow their interest through their Digimind career path and continuous improvement of their skill set.
Someone who knows all about this is Faiçal Baki. In 2012 he was working as an entrepreneur and got Digimind as his client. That turned out to be a success! Now he works as our Product Owner. “Since the early days, one thing never changed at Digimind: ‘fun is part of our DNA, but when it comes to hard work Digiminders are some of the most dedicated and hardworking individuals”
What is your current position at Digimind and what are your responsibilities?
"I work as a Product Owner at Digimind, for our Social Media Monitoring platform Digimind Social. It’s a very unique position, working at the intersection of technology, design and business. On a day-to-day basis, I translate the product roadmap into tangible features together with the help of the Research and Development (R&D) team. My responsibilities also include: ensuring the quality of our releases with our hardworking Quality Assurance (QA) team. So if you ever find yourself frustrated at your screen because a button isn’t working as expected, you can blame me for that.
Every day I get to work with cutting-edge AI technologies like AI Sense which allows us to provide our customers with the most advanced and accurate social media listening tool."
Can you tell us about your background at Digimind?
"Fun is part of our DNA"
"Before I worked at Digimind, as an entrepreneur I was working for my own company. In 2012 I got a very interesting client, which you might be able to guess... Digimind. It was one of the best clients I ever worked with. I was amazed by the technical problems that Digimind was trying to solve. Since that moment I knew I needed to join. Luckily I did! I got the opportunity in 2016 to start working as a front-end software engineer in the R&D team. Digimind offered me many opportunities to grow and experiment inside the team.
After some amazing and crazy adventures, the leadership of Digimind asked me whether I was interested in moving into a Product Owner position. Of course I had some questions and doubts, like what would happen if I ended up not liking it? But that is honestly an amazing part of this company. I've seen people try in new roles and end up going back to their original ones if things didn’t work out: there are a lot of possibilities to try new things and see how it goes."
What was your first impression of Digimind and the Digiminders?
"Since I already knew Digimind before joining as a full-time employee, my first impression happened as a freelancer: I thought it might be some fancy company working on digital mining, but it ended up being an amazing company working on cutting-edge technology and product. They knew what they were doing and had a team full of passionate people.
Since the early days, one thing never changed at Digimind: ‘fun is part of our DNA, but when it comes to hard work Digiminders are some of the most dedicated and hardworking individuals.’ There are so many smart people in our teams that no week passes where I don’t learn something new. I can’t wait to see what we come up with and develop next!"
How are Digimind's values (go getter, benevolent and entrepreneur) important to you?
"These three values are not just words written on a piece of paper. They’re the guiding principles that drive us every day. Simply put: We don’t just talk the talk, we walk the walk. I see the value of a go-getter in not waiting for things to happen, but experimenting, sometimes failing, and seeing where that takes you. Our leadership also encourages us to have a positive impact on our environment - not just about being successful as a company - it’s about doing the right things. And of course, the entrepreneurial value is something that never left my side, going from entrepreneur to Digiminder."
What is one of your favorite memories of your time at Digimind?
"There are so many! But one I really enjoyed was this: right before Covid happened, we started a book club inside of Digimind Rabat. I led the effort with the help of some of my colleagues and was amazed by how many people enjoyed reading. For each quarter, we would pick three books around a specific topic. Anyone can pick a copy to read and at the end they will share their own review of the book. In case you’re wondering, our most successful book was ‘The Power of Habits' by Charles Duhigg.
"Another experience I will never forget was the hackathon we did inside of the Digimind R&D team, where we did 48 hours of coding and got the opportunity to develop our own ideas. I was amazed when I saw the results and how some ideas actually got implemented, like customizable personalized newsletters."
Why do you recommend working at Digimind?
I don’t recommend working at Digimind, I highly recommend working at Digimind! It’s a cliche that every company has friendly people and that the culture is like a family, but in the case of Digimind I truly believe that it’s true.
But that’s not even the best part. The interactions I’ve had with the team at Digimind have been nothing short of enriching. They’re not just colleagues, they’re friends. And let me tell you their humor game is strong. I’ve never laughed so hard at a company meeting in my life. It's the perfect balance of professionalism and fun.
