What is United Nations Global Compact?

The United Nations Global Compact is a voluntary initiative that encourages businesses around the world to adopt sustainable and socially responsible policies. It was launched by the United Nations in 2000 with the goal of promoting responsible business practices and advancing the UN's goals for sustainable development.

The Global Compact consists of ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption. These principles are based on international agreements and standards, such as the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the International Labor Organization's Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work.

Participation in the Global Compact is open to all businesses, regardless of size or sector. Companies that join the Global Compact commit to aligning their operations and strategies with the ten principles and to report annually on their progress. The Global Compact also provides a platform for companies to exchange best practices and learn from each other's experiences.

Digimind joined this initiative in December 2022 in order to align strategies and operations with universal principles on human rights, labour, environment and anti-corruption and take action that advance societal goals.

What does mean Communication on Progress?

A COP, or Communication on Progress, is a report that companies that have joined the United Nations Global Compact are required to submit annually. The COP is a way for companies to communicate their progress in implementing the Global Compact's ten principles, which cover human rights, labor, the environment, and anti-corruption.

In their COP, companies are expected to describe the actions they have taken to align their operations and strategies with the Global Compact's principles and to report on their progress in implementing these actions. The COP should also include information on any challenges the company has faced and how it has addressed them.

The COP is intended to be a transparent and accountable way for companies to demonstrate their commitment to the Global Compact and to sustainable and responsible business practices. It is reviewed by the Global Compact Office, and the results are shared publicly on the Global Compact website.
